Exactly a week from now, the Thanksgiving holidays will be upon us. It's the time of the year that we've all been waiting for. Aside from the long weekend and the shopping, we all look forward to the family gathering and the food! It seems like Thanksgiving gives us the license to binge on food the whole day! Unfortunately, Thanksgiving dinner (and drinks!) are loaded with carbohydrates and sugar which may eventually cause cavities in our teeth. But this is not to say we can't enjoy them, right?
Your daily dental routine is very important to remember during this time. Obviously, our food intake on Thanksgiving will be more than the normal amount that we would take in everyday. This increases the risk of our teeth to be prone to cavities. Bringing a travel-sized toothbrush in your pocket or purse to use right afer eating will come in handy. And if you can't brush, always remember to drink lots of water or rinse your mouth with water after eating to help dislodge some food particles that may be left in between the teeth. Chewing a gum after a meal increases saliva production which helps in neutralizing the acid in the mouth so this can help, too.
Keep your oral health habits in mind and enjoy the holidays with family and friends. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
